Rubber Industry in India

Natural rubber and synthetic rubber are the two important raw materials used in rubber industry sector. Most of the natural rubber comes mainly from Kerala state contributing to 85% of the total and the rest comes from Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. Now-a-days natural rubber is coming even from the non-traditional areas like Maharashtra, Orissa, North Eastern States and Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
The first synthetic rubber factory of India, namely Synthetics  & chemical Ltd., was commissioned at Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh.
Rubber industry is mainly located in the Hooghly basin and in hinterland of Mumbai. Besides, it is located in Rajasthan and Kerala.
The rubber Board is a statutory body constituted by the Government of India under the Rubber Act 1947. It is located at Kottayam (Kerala).
